1. Moms - Pick your outfit first. Often times we focus on everyone else’s outfits and we come last. Usually we are stuck trying to through something together and it may not be our first choice or what makes you feel confident and beautiful. So moms. I give you permission to wear something YOU love.
2. Now that you have your outfit picked it’s time to base the color scheme off your piece. Pick a color scheme of 3-4 colors. Have 2-3 of those colors neutrals. If you choose add a pop of color like berry, plum, mustard, rust, forest green, navy blue, rose blush, light pink. (Within those colors you can have multiple shades of a color. Example of blues: Dark blue, light blue, denim.)
3. Avoid graphic tees + logos.
4. Adding texture is a great way to add dimension and avoid being too matchy matchy. Instead of everyone in a plain T-shirt, add a dresses, a blazer, jackets, a overall dress, button down shirts, jewelry etc.
5. Patterns. This is great for adding dimension. Stick to simple patterns that aren’t too busy. Only have a few family members have patterns and have some dressed in solids to break up patterns so it doesn’t become a distraction.
These are just my personal preferences + recommendations after photographing families for years. At the end of the day I want you to wear whatever makes you happy!!
